Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile operator,
saw annual sales increase from £29.3bn last year to
£31.1bn.
The firm said voice and data usage growth offset competitive and
regulatory pressures in Europe. The European Commission plans to
slash mobile roaming charges by up to 70% from this August.
Vodafone recently decided to charge UK contract customers for
surfing the
mobile internet, instead of allowing them access as part of
their bundled voice plans.
Arun Sarin, Vodafone CEO, said, “We have implemented core cost
reduction measures, introduced targeted revenue stimulation
initiatives in Europe, and launched a number of services focusing
on our customers’ total communications needs.”
