Imperial College London has outsourced the
management of an image library containing 20,000 pictures.
Imperial College said the move had lowered the administrative
burden and made it possible to tag the images more
efficiently.
Imperial College is using
GlobusMedia digital asset management system Brandworkz 3.0 to
manage the online image library for 5,000 university staff.
The images were previously
stored on a storage area network (SAN) which meant they could
not be meta tagged and, therefore, could not easily be found.
Also, staff would previously request images by email or phone
and this created a bottleneck for the creation of materials needed
on a daily basis by the college, said Imperial College.
Peter Gillings, new media manager at Imperial College said, “The
sheer number of images that we are accumulating is growing quickly
and we needed a solution that could help us catalogue and
distribute those images in a controlled way across the college for
use across print and online materials.”
The Brandworkz software is a storage and retrieval system that
can also be used to manipulate and create new versions of artwork
on demand. For example, users can download an image as a
low-resolution PDF or JPG file, while a designer has the capacity
to download a Photoshop version of the same image.
