The International Telecommunication Union has cancelled the ITU Telecom Europe show.

The event was scheduled to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria this December, but it has been cancelled because of a lack of support.

The ITU moved its mammoth Telecom World show from Geneva to Hong Kong last year, and the Bulgarian event was seen as an opportunity for European telecoms professionals to visit an event slightly nearer to home.

There are other ITU Telcom events planned for Africa and Asia next year, but the African one is now also in doubt, said the ITU.

The next flagship ITU Telecom World show will be moving back to Geneva, but delegates will have to wait until 5 to 9 October 2009.
