Almost two-thirds of businesses have no long-term mobile
integration strategy in place, with the majority of firms adopting
wireless technologies on an ad-hoc basis.
Cisco questioned over 1,000 companies worldwide about their
wireless deployments as part of its
Cisco Mobility Quotient to measure business
readiness for mobile technologies.
Cisco said that while there was broad adoption of many mobility
systems, including wireless Lans, teleporting, remote working and
mobile email, deployments were “largely spot applications of
technologies”.
The survey found that more than 60% of businesses do not have a
long-term mobile IT strategy in place.
Additionally, the survey found that potentially 25% of
businesses did not comply with industry or regulatory compliance
with their deployments.
The majority of firms had also not made plans to connect
critical assets to their wireless networks.
Cisco’s survey found:
65% of firms use Wireless Lans
55% use mobile e-mail
40% have equipped a majority of their mobile workforce with laptops
or smart phones 48% use IP telephony
The survey also found that 60% surveyed had no means of
monitoring radio frequency (RF) threats, indicating likely industry
regulation compliance issues.
“The findings point to both the enormous opportunity and
challenge that businesses face with mobility,” said Lynn Lucas,
director of mobility solutions at Cisco.
