SAP will have migrated all of its enterprise
resource planning products onto its next-generation
Netweaver service oriented architecture before the end of the
year, the ERP firm told delegates at its annual user conference
last week.
Talking in Vienna, SAP chief executive
Henning Kagermann said 2007 was "the year in which enterprise
SOA is completed".
The software supplier is planning to expand the reach of
Netweaver over the next 12 months by developing applications that
support industry-specific processes. SAP said it would test these
applications with large companies in some of its core markets
before moving the applications onto the Netweaver platform.
SAP also used the conference to unveil new functionality in its
joint development with Microsoft.
SAP Duet, which enables end-users to carry out transactions in
SAP through Microsoft Office applications, has been adapted to
capture processes that most companies rely on. For example, a
manager in a manufacturer could use Duet to delegate the search for
a replacement part to a colleague, said SAP.
