The worldwide IT services market totalled £353.8bn in
2006,
a 6.4% increase from 2005, according to
a report by analyst firm
Gartner.
“Core business process outsourcing services had a strong showing
in 2006,” said Gartner analyst Kathryn Hale.
“These process management services grew 8.6% worldwide, and
several market leaders grew faster than the overall market.”
Hale said, however, that development and integration services
represented the backbone of IT services, accounting for 30% of the
market in 2006.
Across all IT services, IBM continued to be the worldwide market
leader, but its growth rate was below the industry average, said
Gartner. EDS and Accenture were the only suppliers in the top six
that experienced revenue growth rates above the overall market
average.
IBM, EDS, Fujitsu, Accenture and HP are the top five outsourcers
by revenue in that order. Market share for 13 of the top 20
suppliers dropped in 2006, said the analyst.
