Over 70% of UK office workers resort to fixing PC problems themselves rather than contacting the helpdesk, research has revealed.

Richmond Systems, which commissioned the research, said the findings showed a lack of faith in the ability of helpdesk teams to fix computer issues quickly.

Ten per cent of those surveyed said they would make at least five attempts to solve the problem before calling the IT helpdesk.

A further 13% of office workers said they would flick through a manual to try to solve a problem, while 9% said they would attempt to take the computer apart.
