Urban areas in the UK will receive a boost to long-range
WiMax wireless broadband deployments if a Macropolitan and
Alcatel-Lucent UK deal delivers.
The pair are working together to provide UK operators with an
offering that combines the technology of Alcatel-Lucent and
Macropolitan’s ownership of the UK’s largest portfolio of exclusive
telecoms rights at 8,900 urban sites.
Alcatel-Lucent can now offer UK operators a fully outsourced
WiMax network deployment in urban areas.
The networking equipment supplier is able to provide the WiMax
infrastructure, network planning, site acquisition, installation
and maintenance services, while Macropolitan will offer its
portfolio of urban sites to Alcatel-Lucent.
This partnership will deliver a WiMax deployment service that
removes delays associated with traditional site acquisition, said
the pair.
Macropolitan has over 35 property owner partners including
Travelodge, Premier Travel Inn, David Lloyd Leisure and Fitness
First.
Pipex Wireless is currently the only WiMax provider in the UK
near to providing fully commercial services, with trial deployments
at Milton Keynes and Warwick. It recently joined forces with Nokia
Siemens Networks to help speed UK deployments.
