Corporate officers responsible for network security do
not worry as much as they used to about computer viruses and
unauthorised access.
An
annual poll commissioned by Cisco among UK
security bosses at large firms found that 38% place
information theft as their number one
concern, whilst 33% focus on regulatory compliance.
None of the respondents described themselves as “extremely
concerned” about the
perceived security threat of VoIP or unified
comms systems, although 49% agreed that security should be a
consideration when implementing IP-based comms.
The survey, conducted by Vanson Bourne at 100 firms employing at
least 1,000 people, revealed that viruses, the prime concern of 55%
of respondents in 2006, were cited by just 27% this year.
Less than a third of respondents were concerned about
unauthorised access to data in 2007, compared with more than 50% in
2006.
