The government has launched a new website to make it
easier for firms to comply with fire safety
guidelines.
The Fire Gateway portal
has been developed by IT and business services firm Parity.
Parity built the portal in conjunction with the Department for
Communities and Local Government (DCLG), England’s Fire Services
and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, which led the
project.
The portal brings together a collection of fire safety resources
and services aimed at providing premises owners with the
information they need in order to comply with the fire safety
Regulatory Reform Order (RRO), and general information about fire
safety in the home.
The Fire Gateway will also enable citizens and premises owners
to access services online, such as requesting a visit from their
local fire service, applying for licences to store flammable goods
like petrol and fireworks, and testing to see if they have the
attributes to be a firefighter in the modern fire and rescue
service.
Barry Dixon, county fire officer for Greater Manchester Fire and
Rescue Service, said the site will “build partnerships with
communities and businesses, all of which will ultimately help to
make homes and businesses throughout England even safer”.
