Dell said it is the first PC supplier to start shipping
consumer models with a 1Tbyte hard drive, far outstripping the
storage capacity on most business machines.
A Dell XPS machine, and the Alienware-branded Aurora and Area 51
gaming desktop computers are equipped with 1Tbyte hard drives from
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.
The extra hard drive capacity provides enough space to store
millions photos, 16 days of DVD quality video or a million minutes
of music, said Dell.
“Digital content use is exploding in the consumer market – with
this 1Tbyte hard drive, a lifetime of memories, music and other
information can be made, stored and shared with others,” said Neil
Hand, Dell vice president for worldwide consumer marketing in the
consumer product group.
“This type of capability used to be available only to the
largest corporations. With the spectacular advancement in hard
drives and the engineering in our systems, we’re now able to bring
it to consumers,”
said Hand.
