Poor planning means 70% of firms will be bogged down in
resolving the people, process and governance issues of business
intelligence (BI) instead of supporting the
technology.
A lack of a cohesive strategy means that time, energy and money
will be eaten up sorting non-technology issues,
Gartner told
delegates at its Business Intelligence Summit in Chicago.
“Many organisations have created multiple, uncoordinated and
tactical BI implementations, which has resulted in silos of
technology, skills, processes and people,” said Betsy Burton,
vice-president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.
Burton recommends firms establish a Business Intelligence
Competency Centre (BICC) to establish a strategic plan and
priorities for BI.
Business intelligence remains top priority for IT bosses, says
