Sutton and East Surrey Water has gone live with a new
mobile geographic information system (GIS), developed by
Innogistic.
In use by over 40 field workers, the system combines detailed
mapping of Sutton and East Surrey Water's assets with comprehensive
information on schematic diagrams of sites, fitting notices, and
procedural documents, which are linked through to the geographic
record.
Jeremy Downer, a spokesman for Sutton and East Surrey Water
said, “We are really pleased with the outcome of this project.
Innogistic have used the flexibility inherent in their
Open Wings GIS product to deliver the interface
and performance desired by the company to empower its mobile
workforce.
"The system makes available reliable and up-to-date operational
information that will enhance our customer response, in a format
that is purpose designed for use by the company’s field
operatives."
The solution, which was developed specifically for Sutton and
East Surrey Water, uses innovative technology developed by
Innogistic.
Both background mapping data and detailed asset data are stored
in Geographic Markup Language (GML). The data is then kept up to
date on the mobile device by automatic synchronisation using a
change-only update principle.
Asset data is synchronised automatically with the Smallworld
back office system, using a new data interface developed for the
project.
