TheNational Australia Bank(NAB) has sent the personal banking details of almost 400
customers to the wrong people.
Australian press reports say the bank has admitted the error,
and is in the process of contacting those affected by the security
blunder.
Those incorrectly receiving the statements were sent customers’
account names, account numbers and balances, which when combined
could potentially be used for fraud.
The mistake happened when a computer reportedly crashed in the
bank’s postal department.
NAB learned of the breach after being contacted by a customer
who said they had wrongly received another customer’s account
details.
Customers affected by the error are being contacted via phone
and being sent letters of apology. The bank has informed the
regulatory authorities of the incident.
Last month, the UK’s HBOS bank wrongly sent one customer the
account details of 75,000 other customers.
