The British Computer Society has signed an agreement
with APMG, the official ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) accreditor for
the Office of Government Commerce, to continue offering
examinations in the project framework.
As a result of the APMG deal, training providers accredited by
the BCS Information Systems Examination Board
(Iseb) will continue to run all ITIL qualifications. The BCS will
also continue to work with its alliance partner, examination board
Exin.
ITIL version 2 qualifications will continue until at least
December 2007, with transition plans being put in place as soon as
the version 3 books are available.
Pete Bayley, BCS director of qualifications, said, "This is
excellent news for our accredited providers and tutors.
"It means they can continue their business with minimum
disruption, knowing we will be able to provide them with all the
relevant information required for a smooth ITIL refresh
transition.
"We recognise that as the IT profession matures, relationships
of this nature are important as they help provide the building
blocks for professionalism in IT, which is a key goal of our 50th
anniversary year."
What is ITIL?
More information
The IT Infrastructure Library is a publicly available set of
guidelines for best practice in IT services management. Each
library module provides a code of practice intended to improve
efficiency, reduce risks and increase quality of service.
Originally produced by the government’s Central Computer and
Telecommunications Agency (now part of the Office of Government
Commerce) in 1990, ITIL has been adopted by enterprises from all
market sectors across the globe as the basis for service management
systems.
It is important to remember that ITIL is an enabler, not a
system in its own right. Enterprises need to adapt and adopt the
guidance for their own requirements.
