Printer and consumables suppliers are backing print
cartridge standards that will help users to identify which
cartridge produces the most pages.
Supplier body the International Committee for Information Technology
Standards (INCITS) announced its support for the ISO/IEC
24711:2006 and ISO/IEC 19798:2006
printer cartridge yield standards this
month. INCITS members include Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, IBM,
Kodak, Lexmark, Pitney Bowes, QualityLogic, Ricoh and Xerox.
The standards for inkjet and colour toner cartridges define the
attributes that affect yield and apply statistical analysis so that
manufacturers can use the same methods when measuring products'
output.
In the past, printer manufacturers have used a variety of
methods to measure inkjet and toner yields, making it challenging
for users to accurately compare yield measurements from different
suppliers.
Paul Jeran, chairman of the INCITS technical committee for
office equipment, said, "We believe the robust criteria and
consistency of the standards, combined with ISO's unbiased and
global approach results in significant benefits for customers and
the printing industry alike."
The standards can be applied to OEM, remanufactured and refilled
cartridges, said the INCITS.
