VodafoneandGooglehave teamed up
to announce joint development of a location-based version
ofGoogle Mapsfor mobile
phones.
The two suppliers made the announcement at the
3GSM conference this week. They said that
Google Maps for mobile, a downloadable Java application, will offer
customers in selected markets easy-to-use maps and local listings
as well as local search and navigation capabilities.
Users will be able to enjoy unlimited use of Google Maps for
mobile, subject to Vodafone data tariffs. Google and Vodafone are
working together to ensure the service provides customers on
selected handsets with an automatic user-location capability.

Current Analysis, said, “Vodafone is on a mission to revise its
data services offering to complement its existing Vodafone live!
portal and it is making full use of off-portal services to do just
that.
“For end-users, this represents an exciting new wave of mobile
services featuring all of the current hot content from Google,
Yahoo, MySpace, eBay and YouTube.”
