Vista security 'will drive use in long-term'

Improved security features in Windows Vista will provide a compelling reason for businesses to upgrade in the long term, but there will be no immediate rush to adopt the new operating system, analysts said this week.

Industry observers predicted that, although businesses that are still running Windows 2000 would upgrade quickly, those with XP will move to Vista gradually over the next four years as they upgrade their hardware.

Stuart Okin, head of infrastructure at Accenture and former head of security at Microsoft, said, "There are still a lot of companies using Windows 2000.

They have been waiting for Vista and will put their plans together and roll out. For everyone else, the drive will be their next hardware refresh."
