Windows Vista not compatible with iTunes, warns Apple

Microsoft’s new Windows Vista OS is not compatible with Apple’s iTunes software, the world’s leading MP3 playing system.

When Microsoft launched Vista last week, Microsoft boasted that Vista was already compatible with 5,000 products, but Apple has told its millions of iTunes users that they should delay upgrading to Vista because of incompatibility issues.

A number of iTunes users who have already upgraded to Vista have found that content they have already downloaded and paid for cannot work with Vista.

Apple has now issued a repair tool for those affected, and said other users should wait to use Vista for a “few weeks”, until the next version of the iTunes software becomes available.

“Apple is preparing to address a number of iTunes compatibility issues in the next release of the software. Some currently known compatibility issues with iTunes 7.0.2 and earlier versions, include iTunes Store purchases not playing when upgrading to Windows Vista from Windows 2000 or XP.”

Apple said there were also problems linked to updating or changing iPod settings, synching content, and that iPods may even become corrupted when using Vista.

Animation on some iPods may also become slower, said Apple.
