Iceland Foods has signed a seven-year £18.4m comms
contract with BT to improve its network performance and cut
costs.
The contract extends BT’s existing relationship with
Iceland by a
further five years, whilst adding additional networked IT services
which will deliver “significant” cost savings by putting the
retailer firmly on the path to voice and data convergence.
Mark Pearson, IS director at Iceland, said, "This deal with BT
Global Services will provide Iceland with significant cost savings
across our voice estate whilst strategically placing us on our
convergence roadmap.”
Over the seven-year period, BT Global Services will continue to
provide a managed service for Iceland's Wan and Lan. It will also
add new elements such as the delivery of a new “hosted voice
solution“, which will see BT take complete ownership of Iceland's
voice comms estate.
Hosted voice is designed to allow a step by step approach to
convergence as opposed to a wholesale change, and will provide a
substantial proportion of the overall cost savings.
The service has been specifically tailored to meet Iceland's
business requirements and will significantly reduce the retailer's
total cost of ownership for its voice estate, rather than simply
providing pence per minute savings on voice spend.
Voice and data convergence sees both sets of traffic being
carried over a single network, cutting costs for the user.
