IT managers say Vista is 'a distraction'

Almost half of IT professionals feel that migrating to Microsoft Vista is a distraction from more important issues.

In a survey of 150 IT managers across different industries, 49% said Vista would take them away from more pressing issues, and 54% believed it would cause application incompatibility.

The survey, conducted by online research specialist emedia, also found however that 82% of respondents expected that Vista will improve security and compliance - a key marketing message from Microsoft in its Vista promotion campaign.

In addition, 63% said Vista would cause financial pressure on their organisation. But other positives from using Vista included desktop infrastructure optimisation (49%), finding and using information more easily (42%), and enabling a mobile workforce (30%).

But less than half (47%) of respondents expect their organisation to migrate to Vista in the foreseeable future, and more than a quarter (27%) expect Vista to have no impact on their business within the next 18 months.

The first service pack for Vista is expected from Microsoft before the year is out.
