Pipex Wireless is to launch a
second commercial trial of its WiMax long-range internet
connectivity services, working with National Grid Wireless, Warwick
Council and Intel.
The trial will involve three sites in the Leamington Spa and
Warwick area to deliver products including leased line replacement,
VoIP, home workers' broadband and dedicated broadband connectivity
using WiMax.
Pipex is the first wireless solutions provider to launch WiMax
services, having already launched a trial in Milton Keynes. With
the second trial, Pipex intends to initially deliver services to
Warwick District Council and subsequently approach businesses and
home-users in the Warwick area.
The network will be commissioned in the second quarter and run
for six months. Pipex plans to deploy the network to other towns
and cities later in 2007.
The latest trial will see high-speed broadband delivered over
Airspan HiperMax WiMax base stations, one of which will be located
at National Grid Wireless headquarters in Warwick.
Intel Solutions Services is working with the council to support
the introduction of wireless and other technologies, and evaluating
performance.
Chris Elliott, chief executive of Warwick Council, said,
“Attracting the latest wireless broadband and voice services to the
area is great news. We are looking to make the district a
technologically advanced area to live and do business in.”
