For IT directors, this year will be characterised by an
increasing migration to service oriented architectures (SOAs) and
the introduction of "lean" manufacturing principles in datacentre
operations, according to management consultancy
McKinsey.
Research among US CIOs found that 64% of respondents plan to
implement SOAs in the coming year, which McKinsey said was in part
a reflection of the growing adoption of web services standards in
organisations.
The second trend poised to strengthen in 2007 is the application
of lean manufacturing principles in datacentres, with 28% of
respondents saying they had already consolidated, or proposed to
consolidate their datacentre operations, as well as increasing
datacentre automation.
