The BCS has formed a specialist group to provide a forum
for encouraging best practice in the design, building and
management of datacentres.
The Data Centre Specialist Group hopes to attract individuals
who have experience of working in these complex and critical
environments and are willing to share their own experience and/or
gain experience and knowledge from others.
The BCS said the group intends to shine a light into an area of
IT that traditionally has been overlooked, misunderstood or simply
left to the facilities department to deal with.
It aims to provide an avenue for the non-commercial assessment
and dissemination of new technologies and practices and encourage
the improved communication of requirements and capabilities between
datacentre professionals and users.
The specialist group plans to hold about 12 meetings a year, at
which it will tackle the hot topics of the moment as well as
provide a forum for communication and further drive professionalism
through the industry.
The inaugural meeting will be held on 29 January at 6pm at the
BCS offices in London. Attendees will hear a talk by Gartner
research vice-president Rakesh Kumar entitled "The datacentre in
Europe in 2015", which will examine the future of datacentres and
the critical role they play.
