Global banking group HSBC is using IT as a foundation
for meeting its corporate social responsibility obligations and its
green strategy.
In an interview with Computer Weekly, Ken Harvey, the bank's
group general manager and CIO, said that technologies such as
virtual call centres and videoconferencing were increasingly being
used by HSBC IT managers to demonstrate how environmental issues
could be tackled, with the added benefit of lower operating
costs.
He said virtual call centres not only supported flexible working
by allowing staff to field calls from home, but also helped to trim
the heating, electricity and IT bills of a physical call centre,
which the same staff would otherwise need to travel to each
day.
