Liverpool City Council has awarded a five-year extension
of its outsourcing contract to its own joint venture with
BT.
The joint venture, which is called Liverpool Direct, will
continue to run the council’s call centre, revenues and benefits,
human resources and IT services until 2017. The outsourcing
contract was originally signed in 2001 and came into force at the
beginning of 2002.
BT has committed to invest an additional £41m in services during
the five-year extension of the contract. The council expects that
extra investment to save it another £48m.
Liverpool City Council has already cut the running cost of the
outsourced services by £5m a year.
“Almost every department had a completely different IT system
[before the outsourcing deal]. LDL has helped us transform from a
poorly performing local authority with outdated working practices
and computer systems to an innovative, technologically advanced
city council.”
The joint venture is currently rolling out a document management
system to the council’s 450 social workers.
