SiRF Technology, a leading provider of GPS-enabled
location technology, is suing Global Locate and its US distributor
Innovation Sales for alleged patent infringements.
SiRF's complaint alleges infringement by Global Locate and its
distributor of four of SiRF's GPS technology patents: US patent
numbers 7,091,904; 7,043,363; 6,850,557 and 6,636,178.
SiRF is seeking damages and an injunction to prevent further
infringement.
“Today's suit reflects our determination to protect our
intellectual property,” said Nicolas Gikkas, chief intellectual
property counsel at SiRF.
“SiRF intends to ensure that its intellectual property, which
covers GPS components and systems, among other things, is respected
and is used only by those authorised to do so,” he said.
Global Locate and its distributor have so far not responded to
the lawsuit.
SiRF Technology develops and markets semiconductor and software
products that are designed to enable location-awareness using GPS
and other location technologies. The technology has been integrated
into mobile devices such as car navigation systems, mobile phones
and PDAs.
