Minister in charge of NHS IT retires

The minister in charge of the NHS’s national programme for IT, Lord Warner, has retired.
The 66-year-old minister said he had had a “busy and enjoyable” time during his three-and-a-half years as health minister.
“It’s entirely my decision and I will continue to strongly support the NHS reform agenda in the House of Lords and elsewhere,” he said.
The prime minister Tony Blair said he was grateful to Lord Warner for his work and dedication to the NHS.
“I will be very sorry to lose you from government and you can be justly proud of all you have achieved as a minister,” he said.
The prime minister is due to announce a replacement next year.
