Hampshire County Council has signed a five-year service
oriented architecture (SOA) deal with IBM.
The council will use the SOA platform to integrate its systems
with those of its partners elsewhere in the county. The move should
enable the council to make its applications more flexible.
Hampshire’s CIO Jos Creese said, “We have chosen an SOA approach
because we see it as an essential next step in our technology
strategy. We need better systems integration so the different
services and professions can work more closely together.
“We need enhanced business process management so we can respond
more effectively to changing needs, improved information management
so we can understand those needs better, and sharpened security
management so we can do all this safely.”
Hampshire used Bloor Research and Gartner to advise it on the
choice of SOA platform.
The county council is increasingly delivering services in
partnership with other councils and public sector agencies in
Hampshire. Its contact centre handles single non-emergency number
calls asking for both its services and those of the neighbouring
Isle of Wight Council.
