Channel 4 has selected Cape Clear’s Enterprise Service Bus as the integration platform for its new PC-based video-on-demand (VOD) service.

The service will be made available via televisions and PCs and will include all commissioned programming and the best acquired programming available. Viewers will be able to download films, previews, catch-up episodes and archive programmes.

The scalable ESB platform will enable a service oriented architecture approach to delivering the VOD service, which is expected to grow swiftly as demand takes off.

The Cape Clear platform will be used to manage the lifecycle of video assets – each up to a gigabyte in size – within the PC VOD platform, from storage through to distribution.

Bob Harris, who is responsible for IT strategy and architecture at Channel 4, said, “We selected Cape Clear’s ESB Platform for our PC VOD services because it met our technical criteria and supported the tight project deadlines required if we wish to stay ahead of our competitors during this industry shift.”
