Supermarket chain Somerfield has signed a £19m deal with
Vanco to provide telecoms services to over 880 stores and
depots.
Vanco will install and manage a wide area network for the
retailer, and supply internet and firewall services.
David Heyes, Somerfield’s head of supplier and IT services
management, said the deal will save the retailer 40% over its
previous contract with BT.
“We wanted an organisation that could work with us to be more
customer focused and drive further savings,” he said.
“Vanco have an active negotiating process. The more money they
save for Somerfield, they more they save – and both organisations
win.”
Somerfield, which signed a separate deal to outsource its UK IT
operations with Indian firm TCS last week, plans to integrate the
two projects at a later date.
This will include having a single help desk and a single project
management desk for both schemes.
