The British Transport Police is pioneering the use of
mobile data technology to help police officers spend more time on
the beat and make quicker arrests.
The mobile solution has been developed by mobile data specialist
Beat Systems, and provides officers with real-time access to
multiple core operational systems. As a result, officers are able
to spend an extra 1.5 hours a day patrolling the streets.
The Transport Police received Pito (Police Information
Technology Organisation) funding to finance the mobile data
project, which has also aided arrests in the field.
The system runs over the national police Tetra Airwave mobile
network, with officers using a variety of mobile devices to access
applications and information.
Andrew Watson, chief information officer for the Transport
Police, said, “Beat Systems’ mobile data solution has delivered the
force’s vision to improve operational effectiveness, deliver
efficiencies and increase public confidence.
“The solution is leading the way in police mobile data
technology. Not only is real-time information leading to more
arrests, but the ease with which information can be recorded in the
field is significantly boosting the volume and quality of
intelligence reports.”
