Cisco beefs up integrated services routers

Wednesday 06 December 2006 10:54

Cisco has announced it is enhancing its integrated services routers with the launch of two services modules to deliver wide area network optimisation and to accelerate applications.

The modules are designed to boost application performance by eliminating Wan bottlenecks when accessing files and applications from datacentres. The networking and router company has also integrated its Wide Area Application Acceleration Services (WAAS) software into its integrated services routers.

Cisco has introduced “tunnel-less” virtual private network (VPN) technology based on a group encrypted transport (GET) designed to offer data encryption security without sacrificing quality of service.

GET VPN offers scalable, secure any-to-any connectivity that can be used in a variety of Wan environments, including Multiprotocol Label Switching, without point-to-point tunnels.

Voice, video and collaborative features in the integrated services routers have also been enhanced.

The announcement marks the sale of more than two million Cisco integrated services routers worldwide, according to the company.
