Alcatel sues Microsoft over comms patents

Thursday 23 November 2006 12:00

Alcatel has sued Microsoft for alleged patent infringements for digital video and network communications technologies.

The action, brought in a US district court in Texas, follows attempts to settle the dispute out of court, said Alcatel. The French firm is now seeking damages for Microsoft’s alleged patent infringements.

Microsoft has made a big play in the multi-communications market with its new multimedia server line for businesses.

There is a suggestion that the patent dispute is linked to earlier action brought by Lucent against Microsoft over similar patent disputes. Alcatel is now in the process of taking over Lucent.
