Microsoft is continuing to create new device drivers for
its Windows Vista operating system, although it has already been
released to manufacture.
In a post on the Windows Vista team blog, Jim Allchin,
vice-president of the company’s platforms and services division,
said the operating system had been released to manufacture with
more than 19,500 device drivers on the DVD.
But another 11,700 device drivers have already been created and
will be available online via Windows Update, he said.
He added, “While we will have significantly more drivers online
by official availability, we will continue to add more drivers even
after the launch.
“Because of the improvements in automatic updates for Windows
Vista, users whochoose the recommended setting for updates will
have the latest drivers installed and available when they add a new
device.”
Application compatibility updates and fixes for any bugs that
emerge in Vista would also be available through Windows Update,
Allchin said.
Vista is due to be released to corporate users on 30
November.
