IT directors are 4% better off this year, taking home an
average £71,000 in their wallets.
But this increase is small compared to other IT jobs further
down the IT hierarchy. Pressure to find talented staff has pushed
up average pay for IT professionals by 18% to £34,500, according to
second-quarter figures from the Association of Technology Staffing
Companies (ATSCo) and recruitment firm TheSkillsMarket. Contractor
rates rose 6% to £37 an hour.
Biggest payouts are found in the energy, consumer goods and
finance industries. Roles such as project manager, team leader,
test manager and infrastructure architect are also doing well,
commanding 15% raises.
These healthy increases are likely to continue to keep pace with
market expansion. In the UK, market growth is predicted to rise
3.3% this year and 2.9% next year, according to the European
Information Technology Observatory (EITO).
