IBM has announced a new version of its Federated Identity Manager, aimed at small and medium-sized businesses.

IBM Tivoli Federated Identity Manager Business Gateway is designed to offer SMEs a system that allows users to log on to the networks of “federated” outside organisations via the web, using a single password.

The SME offering is aimed at making identity authentication and network access easier for firms that need to use other companies as selling channels, partners, agents or providers. The software has been designed to be interoperable with other systems, using federated identity standards and specifications.

Federated Identity Manager Business Gateway can generate audit logs, tracking and incident reports to meet corporate and regulatory compliance policies.

The software has a simpler architecture than IBM’s enterprise level Tivoli Federated Identity Manager product – which was launched in May – to allow faster, lower cost deployments.
