Oracle is embedding business intelligence tools in its
new Fusion enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
When Fusion launches in 2008, business intelligence tools will
be included in the core transactional processes. Oracle’s
E-Business Suite system, which will be replaced by Fusion, only has
business intelligence capabilities as added extras.
“In the next generation of applications, corporate performance
management and business intelligence reporting tools will not be an
afterthought,” Oracle’s senior director of product strategy for
business intelligence applications Jag Vasudevan said.
Business intelligence tools tell users what has happened and
what is happening in their ERP systems. Corporate performance
management tools tell managers why things have happened in their
ERP systems.
Oracle acquired the technology to integrate business
intelligence with transactional processes when it bought Siebel at
the beginning of this year.
Business intelligence tools have limited effectiveness when they
are not integrated with users’ ERP systems. Oracle wants the new
tools to provide some business intelligence capabilities to each
individual user of its systems.
