Edinburgh puts council tax online

Wednesday 15 November 2006 09:18

City of Edinburgh Council is to give residents secure online access to their council tax accounts.

The online service will be built on Gandlake’s Citizen’s Account e-presentment platform and will give each resident access to their electronic council tax account. Local companies will have access to a similar online service covering their business rate accounts.

The service, which will be hosted by Gandlake, will allow residents to check their payment history and installment plans online, reducing the incoming calls and pressure on council back office staff.

But council staff will have access to the system – and to PDF files of statements and council tax demands - through the software’s customer service access module.

The new service is set to go live next month, and the council plans to put more services online, beginning with housing benefits early next year.
