Agile software development methods are now being used in
about 25% of IT projects at Betfair, as the online gambling company
seeks competitive advantage by bringing products to market more
quickly.
Rorie Devine, chief technology officer at Betfair, told the City
IT financial services forum that one of his key programmes this
year had been to increase the proportion of projects that are
managed using agile development.
Agile programming is a software development method that sees
developers working alongside end-users on projects with short
turnaround times.
One of the reported benefits of the method is that it can
deliver applications that match business needs more closely than
software developed with less frequent input from business
sponsors.
