Google has laid users of its Google Video blog group
open to the Kama Sutra worm by posting to them video clips infected
with the worm.
The blog group, which has more than 50,000 members, was offered
three clips infected with the worm earlier this week. Users
downloading the clips could find files on their machines deleted,
which is the main threat that Kama Sutra poses.
As the worm is a well-established threat, those users with
updated anti-virus software may be protected, but others will not
be.
Google has posted a security advisory on its website that reads,
“On Tuesday evening, three posts were made to the Google Video blog
group that should not have been posted. This has now been addressed
and fixed.”
Google said, “Some of these posts may have contained a virus
called W32/Kapser.A@mm (better known as Kama Sutra), a mass-mailing
worm. If you think you have downloaded this virus from the group or
an e-mail message, we recommend you run your anti-virus program to
remove it."
