Heathrow Express is to offer Wi-Fi access to passengers
who use its fast train service that links central London to
Heathrow Airport.
Heathrow Express will use Wi-Fi services from T-Mobile and Nomad
Digital’ giving travellers a wireless broadband connection
throughout the entire journey, including all tunnel sections, at
speeds of up to 8Mbps.
Brian Raven, managing director for Heathrow Express said, “We
are constantly looking for ways to enhance our customers’ journeys
and this is another innovation designed to make using our service
as convenient and seamless as possible. We know that our customers
will appreciate having continual web and email access during their
journey just as they appreciate the speed and frequency of our
services.”
“While the Heathrow Express is a relatively short route, the
Wi-Fi service will enable business users to check their e-mail or
send important documents prior to a flight or meeting. This can be
particularly useful when they simply don’t have the time to access
e-mail when checking in for a flight or rushing for a meeting in
central London,” added Jay Saw, HotSpot manager for T-Mobile
UK.
Users will be able to buy Wi-Fi HotSpot access passes on board
the train and can continue using the service at other T-Mobile
HotSpots when they arrive at Heathrow Airport.
The Wi-Fi HotSpot access passes can also be used at over 200
locations within central London, such as Starbucks coffee shops,
Borders bookstores and certain hotels. The service will be fully
operational on all trains in early 2007.
