Humberside Police force has deployed Informatica’s Data
Quality software to monitor, clean up and enrich the information it
uses to fight crime.
The software has enabled the police force to align its data with
internal and external quality standards and improve the
effectiveness of its crime and intelligence information
systems.
Humberside Police head of information services Graham Dawson
said, “We identified poor data quality and consistency as major
inhibitors to the successful use of technology in crime prevention
and intelligence.
"With Informatica Data Quality we were very quickly able to
establish just how deep our data quality problems were and to
immediately set about addressing them with the relevant business
system owners.”
The software also allows the police to carry out “fuzzy
matching” across its systems – bringing up a list of results based
on likely relevance, even where initial search terms may not
exactly match.
The technique allows police officers to find links between known
individuals and crimes, and between incidents recorded in different
systems.
These links had previously been difficult to establish because
of poor data quality and the lack of unified data management
standards.
