QE2 Centre finds the time for VoIP

The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre has implemented a voice over IP and wireless hotspot service, after taking three years to settle on a timeslot to carry out the upgrade.
The centre is running Verizon Business' complete VoIP suite, which includes wireless internet connectivity, web-based telephony and high-bandwidth videoconferencing.
It bought an IP private branch exchange system three years ago from MCI, which is now Verizon. But it took until this summer to put the system in place, said Richard Battersby, the centre's ICT manager.
"The biggest problem was to find a suitable window in a tight timeframe to migrate our voice traffic. We are a very busy conference centre and making the migration while maintaining the service to our clients was fundamental," said Battersby.
