BT has confirmed its appointment of JP Rangaswamy as its
new chief information officer for BT Global Services, its
enterprise services division.
The news comes after Rangaswamy leaked the information on his
blog last momth.
Rangaswamy will report to Andy Green, chief executive officer of
BT Global Services, and to Al-Noor Ramji, CEO of BT Exact, BT’s
technology organisation.
Green said, “BT is fortunate to be adding someone of JP
Rangaswamy's calibre and experience to our IT leadership team. His
extensive international experience, relentless customer focus and
innovative approach to emerging technologies and practices make him
a great addition to our leadership team.”
Rangaswamy said, “As telephony became software, telcos the world
over had to respond to the challenge, reinventing themselves as
true global ICT providers. I believe that BT has positioned itself
uniquely in this respect.”
Rangaswamy is replacing Sinclair Stockman. In a new role,
Stockman will work across the BT group to help develop IT
strategies.
Rangaswamy previously held senior roles at Dresdner Kleinwort
Wasserstein, including the global CIO role.
Originally an economist and financial journalist, Rangaswamy has
also held a number of senior positions at other multinational
companies, including Burroughs Corporation, Data General, and Cap
Gemini.
Rangaswamy is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and of
the Royal Society for the Encouragements of the Arts, Manufactures
and Commerce.
He is a charter member of TiE, the early-stage networking and
mentoring group, and an advisory board member of CAL-IT. He holds a
degree in economics and statistics from St Xavier’s College,
University of Calcutta.
