IBM has announced a new software platform designed to
bring together data from a range of systems and sources and
restructure it to support business processes.
The Information Server software platform builds on technology
IBM has gained from key acquisitions, including Ascential, which
was acquired last year in a £580m deal.
The product is aimed at helping businesses get more value from
their information and use it as a strategic asset.
It is designed to integrate complex information of different
types that may be spread across company systems and clean it up to
ensure consistent quality. It will also transform and restructure
information for its intended use so that it is delivered in the
right form to business applications and systems.
The software platform could be used to integrate data from across
several subsidiary businesses, retail outlets and trading partners
or to combine sales figures with real-time inventory data.
IBM said it was planning to offer professional services to support
the Information Server platform.
