UK firms get data security wake-up call

IT directors have been warned to ­review their data security after ­Indian police arrested a man based on evidence broadcast in a Channel 4 programme that investigated security failures in overseas call centres.

However, according to research from PricewaterhouseCoopers for the Department of Trade & Industry, data security problems are still an acute problem in UK-based organisations.

The DTI's latest Information Security Breaches Survey found that half of all UK retail and utility companies do not have procedures in place to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act.
