Anti-virus software firm McAfee has acquired information
security company Onigma in a $20m (£10.7m) deal that will help it
offer a more comprehensive enterprise protection
package.
Onigma produces software to manage and prevent the loss of
confidential data. Its acquisition comes as McAfee announced that
it would be adding a compliance management function to its
anti-virus and spam protection portfolio.
McAfee has been assembling a comprehensive enterprise security
package with a spate of recent acquisitions. The firm snapped up
patch-management provider Citadel Security Software earlier this
month, following the June acquisition of Preventsys.
New versions of McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator are expected to
include a compliance function, while Onigma’s technology will be
integrated into a new McAfee Data Loss Prevention product.
McAfee has also undergone a major board-level shake-up, with
Dale Fuller appointed interim chief executive and Charles Robel
named as chair following the retirement of George Samenuk, who
previously held both positions.
Fuller will also become company president, in the wake of the
sacking of former president Kevin Weiss after an internal
investigation into the granting of stock options. The company is
expected to restate 10 years of its accounts to record up to $150m
in charges as a result of the investigation’s findings.
