It has taken HSBC and its online banking arm First
Direct just 500 development days to develop a mobile banking
service that runs across the Link cash machine
network.
The two banks will use the Monilink mobile platform, developed
by Monitise, to bridge the gap between cash machines and internet
banking.
The service is expected to pave the way to paying for
transactions using a phone.
The application uses a downloadable mobile Java applet to give
customers access to basic banking services on-demand, including
mini-statements and balance enquiries through their mobile
handset.
The bank worked with a consortium to build the service, allowing
it to introduce the applications much more quickly.
