Barclays has appointed Heather Campbell in the new role
of chief operating officer for the group’s chief information office
(CIO).
Campbell will become a member of the Barclays CIO executive, and
will report to Don Trotta, Barclays’ chief information officer.
Campbell has joined Barclays from Rogers Communications, one of
the largest telecommunications and media companies in Canada.
At Rogers, Campbell was vice-president for planning, performance
and governance.
Campbell previously held senior technology positions at the BMO
Financial Group and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Barclays said Campbell will take responsibility for the
company’s “Getting IT Right” programme, an initiative to enhance IT
effectiveness across the Barclays businesses.
Barclays also said she will lead in the areas of strategy,
vendor management, governance, quality assurance and reporting, and
will lead the co-ordination of the CIO IT agenda with the company’s
human resources and finance groups.
Trotta said, “Ms Campbell brings strong strategic and planning
skills to Barclays CIO. Her in-depth knowledge of technology and
business will be invaluable to help create and develop the CIO
function and support the on-going development of Barclays’ IT
capability.”
Lloyds TSB recently hired Barclays IT director Kevin Lloyd as
its new chief information officer for its Wholesale &
International Banking (W&IB) division.
Lloyd had been Barclays’ IT director for UK banking, responsible
for the full spectrum of IT services in the bank’s retail and
corporate operations.
Prior to that, Lloyd had spent three years as Barclays
group-wide chief technology officer, with responsibility for IT
strategy, architecture, policy and governance – many of the roles
Campbell will now take on.
